An Evening at the Opera at Salem

The highly acclaimed, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” will be virtually performed and produced through VOX New England. The project was recorded in Salem’s acoustically sound sanctuary early in November and will be online from December 6 through January 6. The one-act opera by Gian Carlo Menotti was first presented in 1951 and has been a classic ever since. The work is a retelling of the story of the Magi from the point of view of a young, disabled boy named Amahl who lives in poverty with his mother near Bethlehem. The opera features six singers, the New England Symphony Orchestra, sound production work by Ken Silber, and 45 compelling images created by artist Nellie Rustick. Members of Salem and the Briarwood community are invited to view the opera for free. Watch for more information to be able to tune into this fine production.
