This is our world. Captured in this remarkable photograph by Andrew Larsen, is an early morning sky over Mt. Ranier in Washington State. The image puts flesh to our theme for the year – Living the Mysteries – a theme which certainly speaks into an Advent season of waiting, hoping, and unpacking of the old stories of a baby in a feeding trough, an overoccupied inn, pregnant Mary and anxious Joseph. On film, we see an ominous sky. Is it dark and foreboding? Or is the sky breaking open with some new miraculous saving energy? Who knows? We must “live the mysteries”. Come worship with others who will meet in Salem’s sanctuary this Advent Season. Come to ask your questions, to prayer with words and in silence, sing old and new songs of praise, and to listen with new ears for the Holy who will surely come if we open ourselves to the expected one.
