East Coast Conference Superintendent Howard Burgoyne has called for a day of fasting and prayer for Wednesday, July 13.  His call comes in response to the fatal shootings of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and police officers Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael J. Smith, Brent Thompson and Patrick Zamarripa. Here is a portion of Supt. Burgoyne’s call:

“I am calling on the churches and ministries of the East Coast Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church to particularly set apart Wednesday, July 13 as a solemn day of fasting and prayer. We need to gather in churches, in homes, in public spaces on behalf of this divided world, for which Christ Jesus died a violent death, and in the wake of the racial turmoil and violence experienced in the shootings of Dallas, Baton Rouge, and Falcon Heights, MN. Many family, friends and coworkers are deeply impacted by each of these tragic deaths.”

In response to Supt. Burgoyne’s call, Salem Covenant Church will open the sanctuary to anyone desiring to use our sacred space for private prayer throughout the day Wednesday. In addition, Pastor Nilson will lead a 1/2 hour informal prayer gathering beginning at 7:00 pm Wednesday evening for anyone who wishes to gather with others in prayer. This prayer gathering will take place in the Community Room. Some prepared resources will be available outside the sanctuary doors.

Let us gather ourselves in prayer.
